A former hockey player from Ontario was fatally shot in Wisconsin, with authorities suspecting a drive-by shooting. Giovanni Michael Robinson, 32, was discovered with a gunshot wound early Wednesday in Sheboygan Falls, a small city in the state.

Police pronounced Robinson dead at the scene. Their initial investigation indicates he was shot by an individual in a dark-colored SUV. As of now, no suspects have been arrested, and investigators are working to determine the motive behind the shooting.

Robinson hailed from Stouffville, Ontario, and had a notable hockey career. He played for the Stouffville Spirit junior team over a decade ago before joining the Niagara IceDogs from 2012 to 2014. Following his junior career, he played five seasons of men’s hockey at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology from 2014 to 2019. He also spent one year playing professionally in Europe.

The Ontario Hockey League expressed its sorrow over Robinson's death, calling it a "tragic loss" and extending condolences to his family and friends. At the time of his death, Robinson was residing in Pennsylvania.

Police have labeled the shooting a "senseless act" and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
