A man was found dead last Friday in the North Tonawanda City Jail, according to North Tonawanda Police Chief Keith Glass.

According to Glass, at approximately 11:45 p.m. on Sept. 19, a man in custody was found unresponsive in his cell. Glass said they administered lifesaving measures, but the man was pronounced dead.

Details on the identity of the man and the reason for his arrest are being withheld at this time because “it’s an ongoing investigation,” Glass said.

The New York State Attorney General’s Office and New York State Commission of Corrections have been notified and are also investigating the matter, which was first reported by WGRZ.
