TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — On Sept. 12, the Idaho State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) announced once again samples of the invasive quagga mussel were found in the Snake River. Sampling showed that last year’s treatment did lead to a 51% reduction in the impacted area of the river near Twin Falls, but ISDA fell short of their goal of eradicating the species from the water.
On Thursday, ISDA released its 2025 plan to try and remove the quagga mussels once and for all. This year’s plan uses the previous treatment, Natrix, a chelated copper product. Natrix is EPA-approved and has addressed related environmental concerns in other states, according to a press release from ISDA.
