DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Grandma’s Marathon weekend is known for bringing upwards of 50,000 people into the Duluth area in June, but the race to the start line for 2026 is kicking off in just a few days.

The 2024 Marathon finished up just over three months ago and already the community is racing to get a spot in next year’s run.

“You still have that residual high from June and it’s still fresh, the crowds, and crossing the finish line. Then to turn around and get to sign up for it, with this being the 50th it adds to the momentum,” said marathon runner Eric Lindell.

In years past, runners have been guaranteed a spot in whatever race they wanted as long as they were ready to go on registration day, overwhelming popularity makes that difficult now.
