U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday that he will put import taxes of 50 per cent on kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities, 30 per cent on upholstered furniture and 25 per cent on heavy trucks, starting Oct. 1.

Trump said on Truth Social that foreign manufacturers of furniture and cabinetry were flooding the United States with their products, and that tariffs must be applied "for National Security and other reasons." He said foreign-made heavy trucks and parts are hurting domestic producers.

He also announced a 100 per cent tariff on imports of branded or patented pharmaceutical products for Oct. 1, unless a pharmaceutical company is building a manufacturing plant in the U.S.
