GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — With less than a week to go until the end of Michigan's fiscal year, state legislative leaders have announced a deal to pass a budget ahead of the October 1 deadline and avoid a shutdown of swaths of state government.

Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer's office announced that the legislature had reached an agreement to pass the state budget, alongside its school aid budget, by the end of the fiscal year.

The announcement was joined by statements from both Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks (D-Grand Rapids) and Speaker of the House Matt Hall (R-Richland Twp.).
