OLD SAYBROOK, CT. (WFSB) - A new police chief has been named in Old Saybrook.

William Onofrio was confirmed by the police commission in a special meeting Thursday evening.

He was previously the deputy chief of police for the Hamden Police Department.

Former chief Michael Spera announced his retirement in March following a year-long investigation into the department that revealed an unpleasant work environment.

Onofrio will be sworn in on October 1st.
