A record 7,000 Chinook salmon are expected to return to Whatcom Creek this fall, thanks to a hatchery program run by Bellingham Technical College in partnership with the Lummi Nation. The program is not only providing food for endangered Southern Resident killer whales and supporting local fisheries, but it is also giving students hands-on experience in aquatic science and fisheries management.
