DENVER (KDVR) — A Jefferson County law enforcement agency is partnering with a Colorado representative to introduce new legislation to "crack down" on street racing.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office announced Thursday that it has partnered with House Majority Leader Monica Duran, who is sponsoring the new legislation that aims to have stronger penalties for street racing and reckless driving.
“Our citizens spoke, and we listened. Our streets are not racetracks,” said Sheriff Reggie Marinelli in a press release. “Illegal street racing puts lives at risk, strains law enforcement resources, and invites other forms of criminal behavior. We need clear laws, tougher penalties, and modern enforcement tools to keep our communities safe.”
