Attendance Allowance is a benefit provided by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) for individuals over State Pension age who require assistance with personal care or supervision due to an illness, disability or mental health condition. A successful claim can now yield either £73.90 or £110.40 per week, depending on the level of support needed.
Payments are made every four weeks, equating to £295.60 or £441.60 respectively. This additional money can be used however you wish to meet your needs and help maintain independence in your own home - it doesn't necessarily have to be spent on a carer.
This tax-free benefit, specifically designed to assist older people, won't impact any other State support you receive. The charity Independent Age has produced a factsheet to guide new claiman
