MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Rutherford County School Board passed a proposal to help Spanish-speaking families learn English.

During Thursday night’s meeting, the school board approved funding that would add two teachers to the list of ESL lead teachers. One would be at Smyrna Elementary and the other at Smyrna Primary, and they each will teach two hours a week.

The first semester of classes would last 12 weeks while the second semester will last 17 weeks.

The idea of the classes is that they will help Spanish-speaking students and parents who have a language barrier at school.
