Legendary Spanish midfielder Sergio Busquets has announced he will retire at the end of the 2025 MLS season.
The Inter Miami star is one of the most decorated players of his generation, winning countless trophies with Barcelona and Spain before joining Lionel Messi with the Herons in 2023.
Busquets, 37, made the announcement in a video posted to his social media channels.
"A heartfelt thank you to everyone, and to football, for everything. You will always be a part of this beautiful story," he said in the caption.
Busquets is considered one of the greatest holding midfielders of all time, redefining the position while forming the backbone of Barcelona and Spain for years.
The Barcelona youth product spent the large majority of his pro career with the Blaugrana, helping his boyhood club to nine La Liga titles, seven Copas del Rey and three Champions League crowns.
Busquets made 721 appearances for Barcelona over the course of 15 seasons, the third most of any player in the club’s history.
With Spain, Busquets is also third on the team's all-time appearance list with 143 caps. He was equally successful on the international level as he has been on the club side, helping Spain win the 2010 World Cup and 2012 European Championship.
In the twilight of his career, Busquets joined longtime Barcelona teammates Messi, Jordi Alba and Luis Suárez with Inter Miami in MLS.
Busquets immediately began to win trophies in South Florida, taking home the 2023 Leagues Cup and then helping Miami to the 2024 Supporters' Shield.
