HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Drivers in central Connecticut may need to get on the highway at a different spot than normal next week AS the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) shuts down some ramps for wrong-way detection system inspections.
Sixteen times in the last week, a driver in Connecticut has attempted to get on the highway going the wrong way, according to CTDOT.
"This is happening at an incredibly alarming frequency,” said CTDOT Spokesperson Josh Morgan.
At nearly 200 spots across Connecticut, a detection system will set off flashing lights and authorities will be immediately called in the event that a driver gets on the highway going the wrong way. Morgan said the system saves lives.
