WESTMINSTER — Over the past five seasons, Broomfield and Mountain Range gymnastics have been among the favorites to win a Class 5A state championship.

The Mustangs claimed the gold the last two years, whereas the Eagles won the two years leading up to that. On Thursday night in Mountain Range’s gym, the two squads sparred again — this time with Poudre School District and Denver East in tow.

When everything was set and done, and every routine polished off, the Mustangs pulled off the narrow 177.375 victory. Broomfield just barely missed out on the win with a score of 176.275, but at this midway point of the season, the numbers don’t matter much to the Eagles.
