COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - A South Carolina state trooper has been released from the hospital after being hit during a traffic stop, leaving him in ‘serious condition.’

South Carolina Highway Patrol Master Trooper Wayne LaBounty was released from the hospital on Thursday after being hit by a pickup truck during a traffic stop earlier this month in Lexington County.

According to authorities, Labounty has now been transferred to a rehab facility.

Troopers say it is a big step forward, but he still has a long road ahead in his recovery.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department said Jerrod Ricks, 23, was charged with reckless driving after hitting LaBounty and was also issued a citation for endangering emergency service personnel.
