A crash involving five vehicles, two of which were tractor-trailers, happened within the open road tolling lanes on Interstate 95 in Hampton on Thursday morning.

At 6:42 a.m., New Hampshire State Police got the report of the crash.

According to a press release, State Police were told a white car stopped in the open toll lanes, then drove off.

“This caused the driver of a 2024 Land Rover, identified as Martin Smith, 57, of Newburyport, Mass., to brake abruptly. The Land Rover was then struck by a 2013 Chevy Express van, driven by Kedwin Mendez, 23, of Nashua,” the press release said.

The chain-reaction crash continued, with a 2017 Mercedes Sprinter, driven by George Gould, 62, of Port Orange, Florida, crashing into the back of the Chevy van.
