The New South Wales coroner can consider the actions of police in the lead up to the death of an Aboriginal woman in custody, the Supreme Court has ruled.

The ruling comes after the NSW police commissioner launched a legal challenge to limit the scope of the coronial inquiry into the death of Tammy Shipley in custody.
Ms Shipley died alone in her cell at Silverwater Women's Correctional Centre in December 2022 after drinking up to 20 litres of water in one day.
