A National Day of Remembrance for Homicide Victims in Daytona Beach brought together survivors and advocates to honor lost loved ones and raise awareness about gun violence.
"It's not the guns that's killing people. It's the people with guns killing people," said Florie Collier, who has lost two sons, her brother, and the father of her daughter to gun violence.
Collier attended the event to break a generational curse.
"I can't allow this spirit to follow to my grandchildren or my great-grandchildren, or even any generations to come, that's why I'm here today," she said.
LaShandra Miles Long, founder of the Turnaround Foundation, an anti-gun violence organization, co-hosted the event and shared her own experience of loss.
