Khartoum, Sep 26 (UNI) The United Nations on Thursday described El Fasher, the capital of Sudan’s North Darfur state, as the “epicenter of suffering” after more than 500 days under siege by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
“The people of El Fasher … continue to bear the brunt of Sudan’s ongoing conflict. Civilians are being killed in their homes, in hospitals and even in places of worship,” the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in its latest update.
OCHA said civilians face daily threats from shelling, airstrikes and drone attacks, with recent clashes reported in the city’s northeastern districts. Satellite images show more than 30 km of earthen barriers surrounding the city, restricting movement and trapping residents inside.
