CLEVELAND, Ohio — A former United Nations employee was extradited to Cleveland on Thursday to face charges that he and a Warrensville Heights man ran dozens of guns to the Ivory Coast.
Bile Jean Philippe Assemian, a former employee at the United Nations Support Office in Somalia, faces charges in federal court in Cleveland of conspiracy to smuggle guns from the United States.
Kenya’s Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions announced Assemian’s extradition on the social media site X , accompanied by photos of Assemian using crutches to walk onto a plane.
“This extradition underscores Kenya’s commitment to honouring international legal obligations and strengthening cooperation with global partners in the fight against transnational crime,” a statement from that office said.
