The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has issued a revised draft on Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency (CAFE) norms 2027 in which it has classified small cars separately for the first time.
According to the draft, the small cars get special treatment and on top of carbon-dioxide savings achieved through certified technologies, they can subtract an extra 3 gm/km from their declared emission, which could benefit Maruti Suzuki India the most, being the biggest small cars manufacturer in the country.
Apart from special relief to small cars, the draft norms is also offering incentives for flex-fuel and strong hybrid vehicles.
