MARYSVILLE, Calif. —

Marysville residents and business owners gathered at a town hall meeting to discuss the future of the site where the historic Hotel Marysville once stood before it was destroyed by a fire in June 2024 and subsequently demolished .

After the demolition, officials covered the site in a concrete-like material to seal in hazardous materials amid concerns over the building containing asbestos and lead.

City officials are now applying for an EPA grant to fund the removal of the debris and move toward redevelopment.

“Once we demolished it and encased it in concrete, it would give us time to apply for these grants because the process of removing material is fairly expensive and could run up into the millions of dollars to remove the material, so the real process taking
