INDIANAPOLIS — A woman is now dead after she was allegedly shot by her own boyfriend in a far east Indy apartment early Friday.

Around 3:15 a.m., IMPD officers responded to a report of a person shot in the 10100 block of John Jay Drive , near 38th Street and North Mitthoefer Road.

When police arrived on the scene, they found a woman who had been shot inside the apartment. She was reported to be "very critical, clinging to life" when she was taken to a local hospital.

At 4 a.m., she was pronounced dead by medics.

IMPD believes the shooting involved some type of domestic dispute with the victim's boyfriend.

Now, IMPD wants to leave the community with this message.

"When you're having problems... please don't resort to violence," said Don Weilhammer, an IMPD captain.
