That's three points for Europe in Friday foursomes
The most dominant player in golf didn't have much of a say on Friday as Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley failed to put up much of a fight against Ludvig Aberg and Matt Fitzpatrick. The Euros won this one, 5 and 3. No match so far has made it to the 16th hole.
Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood remain undefeated
Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood put up a second point for Europe, dusting Collin Morikawa and Harris English, 5 and 4. The Europeans held control of the match the whole way. McIlroy and Fleetwood won all three matches they played together in Rome.
Europe puts first point on the board in Friday foursomes
Bryson DeChambeau struck first but Europe got the final blow. Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton took down Justin Thomas and DeChambeau, 4 and 3. Team USA won the first hole and lost the advantage on the seventh hole and never regained any momentum. Both Rahm and Hatton pulled off some incredible heroics to get the first point on the board for Luke Donald with no bogeys on the day.
Talk of TV dominating social-media chatter among fans, golfers
The first tee shot of the 2025 Ryder Cup was still in the air when the entire golf-watching community seemed to let out a collective groan regarding the television production. Bad audio and the commercial load are leading the way in the complaint department.
Preferred lies in effect for Friday morning foursomes
On Friday, officials made a rare move: the use of preferred lies in morning foursomes.
Also known as lift, clean and place, the local rule allows players to pick up their ball and clean it to avoid mud causing unusually errant shots.
Rory McIlroy drains birdie putt to make it 5 up
McIlroy drained a birdie putt on the eighth hole to give him and Tommy Fleetwood a 5-up lead on Collin Morikawa and Harris English. The Euro pairing has won the first, fourth, fifth, sixth and eighth holes and are threatening to turn this into a rout.
Europeans take lead in three of four matches
Jon Rahm just made birdie on No. 8 to give him and Tyrrell Hatton a lead of 1 up. The Euros lead 3 up and 4 up in the other matches they're leading, with the Schauffele/Cantlay duo the only U.S. pairing to be leading and they're just 1 up through four. A not great start for the U.S.
Each side leads two matches in the early going
The Euro duo of Ludvig Aberg and Matt Fitzpatrick 2 up on the Scottie Scheffler-Russell Henley pairing through five holes and the Rory McIlroy-Tommy Fleetwood team 2 up on Collin Morikawa and Harris English through four.
Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood birdie the first hole for Europe
Short early birdie putt drops for Rory McIlroy as he and Tommy Fleetwood win the first hole for Europe against Collin Morikawa and Harris English.
Bryson walks it in on first hole
Bryson DeChambeau's electric start carried on as he walked in a birdie putt on the first hole to give the U.S. the early lead.
Bryson nearly drives the green to begin morning foursomes
Jon Rahm hit the first tee shot (in the rough) but Bryson DeChambeau stole the show, nearly driving the first green with a monstrous swing.
"Did you see what he just did? That's why we have him there," U.S. captain Keegan Bradley said moments after to Damon Hack.
