The Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) has congratulated Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika on his election as the new President of Malawi, held on September 16.

In a statement, ECM Chairperson Right Reverend Martin Anwel Mtumbuka pledged the bishops’ commitment to collaborate with President Mutharika to advance the nation’s development agenda.

The ECM also commended outgoing President Lazarus Chakwera for his swift acceptance of the election outcome and gracious concession, noting it strengthens Malawi’s democratic values.

This gesture is seen as a positive step in maintaining peace and stability in the country.
