A career criminal has been handed another prison sentence after breaking out of prison and hiding in a his mum's cupboard, a court has heard.

Paul Handley, 39, was given a four month prison sentence at Preston Crown Court after escaping from lawful custody and being discovered in his mum's cupboard after ten days on the run.

Handley, who has 39 previous convictions for 117 offences, was already serving a sentence for burglary when he walked off on June 2 this year, and pleaded guilty for the offence.

After 'facing difficulty in prison' due to other prisoners 'putting items in his cell', Handley believed that officers didn't care about his complaints so he walked out of HMP Kirkham in Preston.
