The counting of votes for the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections began this morning at 8 am, with the outcome set to decide the fate of 316 candidates contesting across 40 constituencies.

The election battle is spread across five districts. Kokrajhar has the highest number of candidates, with 100 contenders in 12 constituencies. Udalguri follows with 68 candidates in 10 constituencies.

Chirang has 56 candidates contesting in 7 constituencies, Baksa has 52 candidates in 6 constituencies, while Tamulpur sees 40 candidates in the fray across 5 constituencies.

A strong room in Kokrajhar Sadar has been designated for the counting of six constituencies, where 100 candidates are in the contest. Security forces have been deployed in large numbers to ensure peaceful and smooth counting
