An investigation has been launched into how an accused child sex offender was able to allegedly escape from custody using a false name and spend more than 24 hours on the run.
Police arrested Robert Kevin McCullough, 39, on Saturday night, after he allegedly managed to escape custody at the Central Law Courts in Perth on Friday afternoon.
A spokeswoman for the Department of Justice said the lead up to the alleged courthouse escape was now under investigation.
“The circumstances surrounding Friday’s incident are being fully investigated by the Department of Justice including whether the contracted security provider followed all required processes and procedures,” she said.
The spokeswoman said there was “nothing to indicate there was any delay in police being notified.”
