YOUNGSTOWN Youngstown City Council is reviewing legislation that would authorize spending $155,000 on new handguns and associated equipment for the city's police department.
The ordinance, if approved during next week’s meeting, authorizes the city's Board of Control to enter into an agreement with Vance Outdoor of Columbus for the purchase of 150 Glock Model 45 pistols.
According to the Glock website, Model 45 used the design and engineering that the arms maker developed for its military pistol, combined with operator and worldwide Law Enforcement specifications.
The standard magazine holds 17 rounds of 9 mm ammunition.
The purchase would also include related accessories: holsters, optics, and lights, in addition to ammunition for training and qualification targets.
