The Prime Minister announced today that the UK Government is to introduce digital ID cards, dubbed as 'Brit Cards' , which every citizen will be required to have. Sir Kier Starmer said the new scheme will enhance checks on people's right to live and work in the UK in a bid to tackle illegal immigration. ‌

Starmer said in his speech today, Friday, September 26, at the Global Progress Action Summit, that the Government has been 'squeamish about saying things that are clearly true', but that the nation 'needs control over its borders.' The PM added in his announcement: "You will not be able to work in the United Kingdom if you do not have digital ID. It's as simple as that." ‌
