Hamilton Mayor Andrea Horwath says Premier Doug Ford's plan to ban speed cameras across Ontario would take away a tool the city has found effective to slow drivers down.

She says the devices have already changed driver behaviour in the city.

"Every time someone loses a life or someone is maimed," she said about traffic accidents, "it's for those people we need to use speed cameras."

At a news conference in Vaughan Thursday, Ford said he will table the legislation next month.
