Since Law & Order: Special Victims Unit has been on the air for almost 30 years, fans have seemingly been brought up by Olivia Benson ( Mariska Hargitay ) and company — but in real life, members of the cast have been busy parents to their actual children off-screen.

The long-running Dick Wolf production is returning on Sept. 25 to kick off its historic 27th season , and Hargitay has been juggling leading the series and being a working mom since she welcomed her first child nearly two decades ago.
