Madelaine Petsch "can't avoid" seeing negative reviews of her work on social media. The 31-year-old, who is best known for playing Cheryl Blossom in the TV series Riverdale, stars as Maya in the first two instalments of The Strangers horror trilogy, both of which have been largely panned by critics. In an interview with People, Petsch admitted that it's impossible to avoid seeing reviews of her work on social media, but she doesn't let them bother her. "You kind of can't avoid them on social media. It's going to show up on my 'For You' page on TikTok, or my producer's going to send it to me. It is what it is," she shared. "(But) at the end of the day, what's most important is that I'm proud of my performance. That's literally the only thing I can control." The actress noted that she is proud of her work in The Strangers: Chapter 2, which was released in cinemas on Friday, and she welcomes all of the discourse about it, whether it's good or bad. "I think the best films are polarising," she added. "That's what makes film and art so cool." The standalone trilogy, which is neither a remake nor a prequel to the 2008 horror starring Liv Tyler, follows Petsch as she is terrorised by three masked strangers. Following the murder spree in 2024's Chapter 1, sole survivor Maya finds herself in a fight for survival as the killers continue to target her in Chapter 2. All three films were shot concurrently in Slovakia in just 52 days in 2022. However, thanks to the success of Chapter 1, they were given 18 days of additional photography to address fan criticisms, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Petsch told the publication that Chapter 3 was "basically done" and they are simply awaiting a release date.
