Rory McIlroy loves the United States of America.
McIlroy might be competing in his eighth Ryder Cup for Team Europe and going for his sixth win, but he doesn’t allow that rivalry to stop his opinion on the country he spends the most time in.
McIlroy, who took a massive burn from a USA fan at practice this week, was quick to praise the host country, where he has lived since 2013.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of the tournament’s start, McIlroy noted that the USA was always a place he dreamed of living.
“Everyone wanted to make it in America,” McIlroy said when asked about his thoughts of the country as a child. “It’s the land of opportunity. And I still believe it’s the best country in the world, and if you come here and work hard and dedicate yourself, you can be or do whatever
