Odisha witnessed the largest income tax raid in the country’s history. The 10-day operation, targeting Boudh Distilleries Private Limited, involved extensive manpower and machinery.
The severity of the raid was such that the Income Tax Department utilised a ‘scanning wheel’ machine to detect valuables buried underground. Following the raid, an astonishing Rs 352 crore was seized and loaded into trucks, which were then transported to the department’s office under tight security.
The scale of the seized cash necessitated the use of three dozen note-counting machines, and employees from various banks were called in to help count the money. This raid is considered the largest operation by the Income Tax Department to date.
