We all know the struggle of trying to book a GP appointment - if you can actually get through on the phone, you're likely to wait on hold for long enough to have missed all the available appointments for the week. But NHS England is introducing new rules for GPs across the country in order to tackle this infamous '8am scramble'. ‌

The changes, which come into force on October 1, will require practices to keep their online consultation tool available during core hours for non-urgent appointment requests, as well as medication inquiries and administrative requests. The new rules aim to free up phone lines to ease the rush of people calling at 8am. ‌
