Provincial police and the Ontario coroner have launched an investigation into the death of a nursing home resident in West Nipissing this past Tuesday, the Nipissing West OPP detachment said in a press release.

Police launched an investigation on Tuesday around 10 p.m., the OPP said, after staff found the resident deceased at the nursing home on Michaud Street.

Police did not name the deceased person in their release, but identified them as “an 85-year-old person from West Nipissing.”

Members of the Nipissing West OPP Crime Unit continue to investigate the death, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service to determine the cause of death.

The OPP said further information will be released as it becomes available.
