LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg has named the city’s next independent monitor.
Effective Law Enforcement for All is the name of the group that will act as a neutral evaluator of LMPD’s progress on reform.
“This was a robust process that resulted in two extremely qualified finalist teams,” said Greenberg in a news release. “The scoring was incredibly close, and the results of our community survey ended up being the deciding factor.”
The monitor was required under the city’s consent decree with the U.S. Department of Justice. That was later dropped, but the city later implemented a self-imposed consent decree with the same requirement.
The group will report directly to the new Community Safety Commission and to the public in semiannual reports.
