District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board (DNSSAB) is projecting a deficit of $1.3 million.

The board heard on Wednesday that providing social services, paramedic response, and helping the homeless continues to be a costly venture.

Coun. Mark King, chairman of DNSSAB, said much of that deficit was created last year when the board used $508,000 from reserves to cover operating costs.

He said they have that same issue this year.

“There are significant pressures like Northern Pines renovation, a one-time purchase of paramedic equipment, and higher-than-expected paramedic payroll costs,” King told The Nugget following the meeting.
