This deep into the season, Surrey Knights have never been first in Pacific Junior Hockey League standings.
But there they sit today (Sept. 26), with five wins in six games, 11 points and top spot in the 16-team PJHL.
Thursday on home ice, the Knights skated to an 8-5 win over Port Moody Panthers — five of those goals scored in the first period including three by veteran forward Parkor Sarai, now third in league scoring with 11 points (nine goals, two assists).
In net, goaltender Carson Lang stopped 32 of 37 shots for the win.
The same two teams play again next Thursday (Oct. 2) at North Surrey Sport and Ice Complex, 7 p.m. puck drop.
So far this season, the Knights' only loss was in overtime to White Rock Whalers, a 4-3 setback on Sept. 13.
