The Maple Leafs have brought back veteran goaltender James Reimer on a professional tryout contract.
The 37-year-old Reimer, who broke in with the Maple Leafs in the 2010-11 season, would offer some goaltending depth with Joseph Woll on personal leave and Dennis Hildeby an unproven rookie.
Reimer was en route to Toronto on Friday. It remains to be seen what number he will wear as his familiar No. 34 is taken by Auston Matthews .
His 85 wins has him currently ranked 11th all-time with the Leafs, seven wins behind Ed Belfour. His 207 games played also has him sitting 11th on the franchise’s list, three behind Bruce Gamble. Hockey
