Allen County's intention to use vote centers beginning next year got approval today from the Allen County Commissioners.

Allen County Council is expected to consider a similar resolution Oct. 8, said Amy Scrogham, the county's election director.

"Once we have those, we can submit to the state, and we're officially a vote center county," she said.

The local election board last week approved plans to replace 110 precinct polling locations with 53 universal vote centers.

The resolutions by the commissioners and County Council are required under Indiana code, said Chris Cloud, the commissioners' chief of staff. He noted the documents approve the move to become a vote center community.

"You're not approving the plan," Cloud said. "It's just the concept."
