General Motors Co. on Oct. 1 will reopen its Cole Engineering Center in Metro Detroit after a bacteria that can cause Legionnaires' disease was found in some sinks and drinking fountains but not in water used for the facility's heating and ventilation.
The facility at the automaker's Warren Technical Center was closed Sept. 11 when the Macomb County Health Department notified the company of two cases among its workers. Both workers have since recovered, spokesperson Tara Stewart Kuhnen said.
Legionnaires' disease is a form of pneumonia and is spread by inhaling Legionella bacteria in water droplets.
