WASHINGTON — In August, when President Donald Trump rolled out the red carpet for Vladimir Putin in Alaska, he hand-delivered a letter on behalf of first lady Melania Trump appealing to the Russian president to end his war against Ukraine and protect children caught in the cross-hairs. Now, Senate Republicans are taking a similar tactic with Trump, highlighting the almost 20,000 Ukrainian children who have been abducted since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, as they push for aggressive sanctions targeting Russia’s oil and gas economy.
