The Union government has decided to extend the tenure of Senior Advocate R Venkataramani as Attorney General for India (AG) for next two years.

Venkataramani had taken over from AG KK Venugopal in 2022 and his three-year tenure was to end on September 30. He confirmed to the Bar & Bench that his tenure has been extended for next two years.

Venkataramani was born in Pondicherry on April 13, 1950.

He enrolled as a lawyer in July 1977 with the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and shifted his practice to the Supreme Court in the year 1979. He was designated Senior Advocate by the Supreme Court in the year 1997.
