An author and wife to a famous musician who allegedly fired at police as they chased after suspects in an unrelated crime has been spared jail time and ordered to instead enter a two-year mental health program, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said.

A judge granted Jillian Lauren Shriner, 52, a mental health reprieve instead of jail time, with the caveat that she must have quarterly progress reports for the next two years and not consume alcohol or any illegal drugs.

"Any violation reported to the court may result in potential termination of the diversion. If she successfully completes the conditions of the diversion, the case will be dismissed by the court," a spokesperson for the D.A.'s Office said.
