DES MOINES, Iowa —
Back in my twenties I had a poster titled “In Case You Need a Reason to Celebrate,” and it listed all kinds of milestones, one for every day of the year. Since then, and particularly with the advent of the internet, all kinds of “National Days” have been created. Arbitrary celebratory events have been assigned certain days, sometimes with an attached meaning, in case you need a reason to celebrate.
Foods, events, people, actions, things, movies. They all seem to have their own days. I think you’re all familiar with “Star Wars Day” on 5/4, but did you know there’s also “Aliens Day” on 4/26 (for the planet designation LV-426) and “Bill & Ted’s Day” on 6/9 (give it a sec, you’ll get it).
There’s also days to celebrate every member of your family beyond just Mom and Dad.
