Phoenix Police detectives are investigating a collision that left a pedestrian dead Wednesday night in west Phoenix.
Officers responded to the area of 91st and Highland avenues about 8 p.m. in regards to a collision involving a pedestrian. When officers arrived, they found the pedestrian, later identified as 40-year-old Michael Cathcart, with serious injuries, according to a release.
Cathcart was transported to a nearby hospital where he did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead, according to the release.
The preliminary investigation indicates Cathcart was crossing 91st Avenue, midblock, when he was struck by the vehicle involved. The vehicle originally left the scene; however, when the driver heard about the severity of the collision, they contacted the Phoenix Police Depa
