LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - The Lake Charles Police Department is currently hiring recruits for their Jan. 5, 2026, class and is accepting applicants until Nov. 7.

Today, LCPD showed 7News that the first part of the recruitment process, physical training, is not for the faint of heart.

“You’ve got to show us you’re physically fit. That consists of a 300-meter sprint in 80 seconds or less, 24 sit-ups in a minute, not too crazy, right? There’s also a 150 lb. rescue drag with one of our dummies,” Cpl. Russell Dennis said.

We did the test, but it was not easy. It’s safe to say the dummy rescue part almost made this reporter fail the test.
