Gananoque council will maintain its current structure of seven members elected at-large, rejecting options that would have reduced its size or introduced a ward system – a proposal brought forth by Kirkby.
“I wanted to have the discussion, that’s all,” Kirkby said.
The discussion followed a staff report examining whether the town should reduce its council size from seven members to five, and whether a ward boundary system should be introduced. Staff also provided council with comparisons to neighbouring municipalities and reviewed the history of Gananoque’s council, which has stayed at seven members since 1927.
